Folder-Specific Search Syntax

The advanced search syntax can be used to find items that reside within a particular folder. The syntax for this type of search is shown below.

The term Lookin specifies the folder path that will be searched, which is represented by the term Path. The specified folder path must be enclosed by quotation marks. The optional term Subfolders determines whether subfolders of the specified folder path will also be searched. A subfolder is a folder that resides within another folder. This parameter can either be set to 1 or 0. A value of "Y" indicates that subfolders should be searched upon. A value of "N" indicates that only the specified folder should be searched. If the Subfolders term is omitted, then the search will include the subfolders of the specified path.

Examples of folder specific searches are shown below:

The first two examples will perform a search upon the folder called "My Folder", which is located in the root folder (My Laserfiche Repository). The first example will not search subfolders, while the second one will. Be aware that the first example will not return any search results, since additional search criteria has not been specified. The second and third examples, on the other hand, can return search results. The last two examples will search "My Folder", which resides under the folder called "My Laserfiche Repository." The "My Folder" folder, along with all of its' subfolders, will be searched for documents containing the word "Transportation".

Note: In the second and third examples, the use of the ampersand (&) operator makes sure that the word search only returns search results from the specified folder.
